Where Poetry Lives
since 2009
For Them
I was a fighter
I still l am
I worked hard
I never did drugs
I still don’t
Life is hard out here
That’s why I protect them
Those who let me at least
I listen to their stories, I watch their belongings
They say my broom is like my third arm
But I like to be clean
I know the street does not belong to me
but I don’t know how to live any other way
it has to be clean
I always wish I could do more
And one day when I get out of this
I’ll come back for them
God saved my life for a reason
So I can fight for them
That is what keeps me going
The hope that I will get out
To make things better for them
