The Los Angeles Poet Society will host its 1st Summer Poetry Academy for youth this summer! For 3 weeks, students will embark on a poetic journey, exploring the wide range of poetic form and devices, also the fusion of poetry and the arts!
This program is made possible by support from Poets & Writers, and LAPS Sponsors, Teresa Steward, Kimberly Cobian, and Marie Lecrivain.
Juan Cardenas and Jessica Wilson, with California Poets in the Schools, will provide hands-on instruction to students, ages 10+
Academy dates:
July 27 - 30, 12-2pm at Tia Chucha's
July 31, 8pm Tia Chucha's Open Mic Night
August 3 - 6, 12-2pm at Tia Chucha's
August 7, 7pm for POETRYPALOOZA at Tia Chucha's plus Student Reading
August 10 - 13, 12-2pm at Tia Chucha's
August 12th, 6pm, Student Feature Reading at WRITER WEDNESDAY
Learn How to Write Poetry!
Journal writing, ekphrastic poetry and ekphrastic music techniques, Stream of Consciousness, Acrostic Poetry, fun with figurative language & more!
*Notebooks and pens provided by Los Angeles Poet Society*
Get Published!
Student work, with parents' consent, will be published on Los Angeles Poet Society's student poets page!
Also, as part of our program, students may be published in the annunal literary anthology put out by California Poets in the Schools!

The Los Angeles Poet Society will invites guest Poets from the LA literary community! Plus a very special guest, Los Angeles' Poet Laureate, Luis J. Rodriguez!
